How Much Weight Can a Car Camping Platform Hold? Tested Figures

It's one of the first questions people ask before buying a car camping platform, and it deserves a straight answer with numbers rather than reassurance. Here's what ours are tested to, and what those figures mean when you're loading the car on a Friday night.

Two figures worth pulling out of that table.

• The PRO drawer takes 80 kg. That's a full food box, a cooking kit, water and a fridge at the same time, with room left over.
• The heaviest single LEVEL lift is 16 kg. It weighs 39 kg in total, but comes apart into a 10 kg and a 16 kg frame section plus the 13 kg drawer — which matters far more than the total when you're loading the car on your own.

Why the numbers hold

• Panel material. Hex plywood with a textured, non-slip surface that resists moisture, wear and impact, paired with bamboo. LEVEL uses a powder-coated steel frame with a high-density engineered panel — colour-through core, water-resistant, E0 ultra-low formaldehyde emissions.
• CNC-cut precision. Panels meet properly, so load spreads across joints instead of concentrating on one.
• Gas lifts on both PRO and LEVEL. The bed top lifts and stays up on its own, so you reach the sub-trunk with the bed made rather than balancing a panel on your head.
• Drawer runners that lock. Heavy-duty, and stopped in both the open and closed positions — so a drawer holding 80 kg doesn't roll out at you when you're parked on a slope.

Where DIY builds usually fail is the panel: thinner plywood or MDF flexes under a person and sags permanently within a season.

What the figures don't cover

• Evenly distributed means what it says. 180 kg spread across the sleeping surface is not the same as 180 kg on one spot. Don't kneel with all your weight on a single slat.

Weight capacity is only half of why the structure matters. A mattress laid over folded seats gives you neither a level surface nor storage: your body sinks into the seat gaps, and every bag ends up beside you or on top of you.
